NHLA Policy Discussion

Last month, the House voted on legislation that was aimed at amending the NH Constitution regarding marriage. Although the Board was inclined to include our objection to this bill on the weekly Gold Standard, it was argued by some members that we should remain silent on this legislation since the NHLA had not taken a position on the issue in the past.

On Saturday, May 8th, the Board will be holding a special meeting to give members an opportunity to express their support or objection to the NHLA’s long-standing, informal policy of “don’t touch” issues (marriage, immigration, beginning of life, end of life). Location and format of this event will be announced in the next newsletter.

All NHLA members are welcome to attend to observe and/or provide open or written testimony. After comments have been collected, the Board will review the information and consider a formal policy.

Any member who wishes to offer input and suggestions on this matter should email us at dti@nhliberty.org by May 5th.

Meet-the-Reps Event

The NHLA Meet the Reps event on March 16th in Concord was a huge success. There were 20 state legislators in attendance, along with 20 other members and guests. The food was great, the conversations lively, and everyone had a fabulous time. The event netted over $230 in PAC money to support pro-liberty candidates running this November.

Thank you to all who attended and supported this event.

Candidate Training Session

On Saturday, Feb 6th the NHLA held a candidate/campaign training session for folks considering a run for State Representative or State Senator in November. There were well over 60 people in attendance with approximately half being newcomers to the organization. The atmosphere was energized with people who want to make a positive impact on New Hampshire politics.

The next candidate/campaign training session will be Saturday, April 3rd at 1:00pm at Murphy’s Taproom in Manchester. This session will focus more on the “How To’s” of campaigning, presented by current Representatives.

There will be a similar event in Dover, presented by former Rep. Don Gorman.

Tea Party Events

With April 15th (tax day) rapidly approaching, thousands of dissatisfied citizens concerned about the government’s excessive tax and spend policies and their intrusive laws diminishing our individual rights and liberties will be gathering in several cities and towns across N.H. The list provided below is just some of the locations the NHLA knows about. All are planned for Thursday, April 15th.

These rallies present a good opportunity to meet people who may not know about the NHLA. We encourage all members to visit these events, pass out a handful of our printable tri-fold brochure, and help spread the word about the NHLA.

NH Liberty Forum

The NHLA was a gold sponsor of this year’s N.H. Liberty Forum, held March 18-21 in Nashua. The theme of this year’s event, attended by nearly 600 people, was “Liberty in Action.” Keynote speakers included Judge Andrew Napolitano and (former NHLA Political Director) State Rep. Dan Itse. Our sponsorship raised awareness and PAC funds for the NHLA. Thank you to those who contributed, as well as to volunteers who worked at our table.

Free Keene Festival

If you would like to nominate someone (including yourself) for either office, please email Mark at chair@nhliberty.org.

Other Activism

If preserving property rights in New Hampshire is your issue, below is a list of some of the pro-liberty property rights watchdog groups you may want to get involved with.

(Disclaimer: This list is provided for informational purposes only. The NHLA does not necessarily endorse these groups. We encourage you to do your own research. If you know of others, please tell us about them.)
