Countdown to Bill Review Season

The date has been set for the release of the 2010 House bills. Over 680 bills will be available for viewing beginning Thursday, Dec 10. A copy of the new proposed legislation will be on the NHLA website as part of the Bill Review program.

Bill reviewing is an integral part of the NHLA activism and we are encouraging members to take part in the Bill Review process to help identify pro- and anti-liberty bills that need our attention.

We have made bill reviewing easy with the Bill Review checklist provided on the website. Best of all, you can do it anytime, anywhere. If you’ve never done this, but believe that you are a principled supporter of liberty and would like to have something to say about proposed legislation, this is your chance!

If you would like to know more about this process or want to volunteer as a reviewer, please email Jeremy at research@nhliberty.org.

Bill Review House Parties

The first of the Bill Review training parties is scheduled for Saturday, December 12 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm in Manchester. This is a great opportunity for anyone who hasn’t done any bill reviewing yet to get involved and learn the process. And for those who are already Bill Reviewers, please help train others and get a head start on the hundreds of bills before us.

The training parties involved the following:

  • reading the text of the bill,
  • deciphering the intent of the bill,
  • debating the liberty points, and
  • scoring/grading/rating the bill with the NHLA bill review checklist provided

If you would like to have a say in protecting our civil liberties against NH Legislature’s attempts to restrict freedom, this is your opportunity. Email Mark at vicechair@nhliberty.org for more information and directions. All attendees will receive a free NHLA bumper sticker in appreciation of your participation.

Anyone interested in hosting a Bill Review house party, please contact Mark at the email above.

Retained Bills

The first item on the agenda for the House in the 2010 session is to vote on the 138 retained bills with amendments from the last session.

Reviewing these and offering public testimony is a top priority for the NHLA Bill Review team. We are asking all Bill Reviewers to give your attention to these bills first, so that we can produce a Gold Standard for the January 6th session.

NHLA Merchandise

What better way to promote liberty and the NHLA, especially with the 2010 legislative session just around the corner, than with NHLA merchandise?

Get your professional-looking lapel pin ($5 each), t-shirt ($10–$15 each) and bumper sticker ($1 each) while supplies last. To make a purchase, email Steve at treasurer@nhliberty.org.

P.A.C. Fund

With the 2010 elections only ten months away, now is the time to think about donating to the NHLA P.A.C. Fund. The fund is one of the best ways you can help support pro-liberty candidates running for office next year by providing these candidates with needed resources to purchase materials, signs, literature, etc. that will help get them elected.

2010 is a critical year for New Hampshire. With the current legislature increasing state spending at a record paceand continually attacking our freedoms, we need to send a clear message that our liberty is not theirs for the taking. So please DONATE whatever you can. Every little bit helps.

NHLA Forum

Reminder: As an adjunct to our website we offer the NHLA Forum – a virtual marketplace of ideas and discussions on philosophy, politics, public policy, activism and more. Please visit http://forum.nhliberty.org to participate and join the discussion on state and local government, upcoming elections, legislative issues, and liberty-friendly announcements.

Other Activism

While the NHLA remains busy and committed to the advancement of liberty on a state level, we would like to show our support for other groups/individuals who work tirelessly for the cause of liberty in N.H.

Coalition of NH Taxpayers (CNHT): CNHT is a 100% New Hampshire-only grassroots taxpayer advocacy group that strives to keep taxes low, government small and honest, protect individual rights and freedoms, and preserve the “New Hampshire Advantage.” They strongly believe that good government that serves the people should be limited and fiscally prudent. They help individuals challenging town government, tax assessments, right to know issues, freedom of speech issues, and voter fraud in local elections, school issues, police issues and other “home” stuff. For more information, visit their website at http://www.cnht.org/.

Republican Liberty Caucus of NH: Founded in 1990, the Republican Liberty Caucus works to advance the principles of limited government, individual liberty and free markets within the Republican Party and throughout America. Their focus is on a broad range of issues, including education, taxation, property rights, gun rights, free speech, federalism and the proper role of government. The Republican Liberty Caucus works to elect pro-liberty Republicans to offices at all levels, partisan and non-partisan, in both primary and general elections. For more information, visit their website at http://www.rlcnh.org/.

Ofer Nave: Ofer is a private individual actively pursuing several non-political, pro-liberty outreach campaigns that are extremely economically efficient. His current project is a very impressive bookmark that he designed for FreedomainRadio.com, which he distributes around N.H. for free. With over 20,000 bookmarks distributed thus far, he is looking for help to increase that number. He has set up a chip-in link on his website http://ofernave.com/ for anyone who is interested in making a donation for the continuation of this project.

His second project is to mass produce an array of highly educational DVDs containing many hours of Stefan Molyneux’s YouTube videos covering several liberty issues such as philosophy, politics, economics, history, etc. His intent is to distribute these DVDs to the students of all the universities in N.H. who are majoring in these topics. He hopes to start distributing the DVDs in January and is looking for help with the start up costs. Visit his website for more information or to make a donation.
