to Rep. Joel Winters on being elected by our members as the new Political Action Director. Rep. Winters is a second-term legislator from Manchester and a long-standing supporter of the NHLA. Rep. Winters is replacing outgoing director Rep. Dan Itse.

Thank you Dan for your outstanding service to the organization.

New Treasurer

It’s official; Rep. Carol McGuire stepped down as Treasurer. We would like to thank Carol for her many years of tireless service.

To serve out the remainder of Carol’s term, the Board has appointed Steve Villee as Treasurer. This term lasts until April, 2010, when the positions of both Treasurer and Membership Director are voted upon by the membership. If you are interested in serving in any one of the Board positions next year and would like more information, please contact president Dawn Lincoln at chair@nhliberty.org.

Welcome aboard, Steve!

Civic Action Fund

The NHLA’s Civic Action Fund was instituted for the purpose of providing funding for community service projects that are educational or charitable in nature.

This month, the Board has unanimously voted to use a portion of this money ($500) to donate to the Scholars Academy in Hooksett, N.H.. The Scholars Academy is a new independent day school dedicated to providing a comprehensive educational program that serves the needs of academically gifted students ages five to twelve.

The Board believes that the Scholars Academy’s approach to offering choice in education is representative of a pro-liberty approach to education in New Hampshire. The fact that they are privately funded without government-sponsored taxpayer coercion is a paragon of the best in providing educational opportunities. Such innovation and support of market competition fits nicely with the NHLA’s mission of protecting individual freedom of choice and personal responsibility as well as recognizing and promoting the value of voluntary economic decisions.

The Civic Action Fund is still available for more worthy projects/recipients. Should any of our members have any recommendations for contributions from the fund, please email chair@nhliberty.org. Please keep in mind that we do prefer organizations that are voluntarily/privately funded.
