Our new membership structure is now active. In order to provide the members with a more affordable way to support the NHLA, we have adopted this new menu of choices to select from.
Basic Membership is still free and entitles an individual to access the discussion forum, receive periodic electronic newsletters and bulletins, and sign up as a bill reviewer.
New Full Membership is only $20 per 2-year term and entitles you to access the discussion forum, receive periodic electronic newsletters and bulletins, sign up to be a bill reviewer, vote in NHLA elections, and serve on the board.
Lifetime Membership is a $100 one-time fee and entitles you to the same benefits as Full Membership without ever having to renew your membership.
Remember, your dues allow us to continue pro-liberty outreach, helping to cover printing costs for the Gold Standard, Liberty Ratings, the useful tri-fold NHLA promotional brochure, and contributions to pro-liberty candidates.
To upgrade your Basic Membership to either the Full or Lifetime Membership plan, go to http://www.nhliberty.org/donate. Select the plan you want to purchase, click on “Buy Now”, and fill in the appropriate information. Your support is appreciated!
Next month the NHLA position of Political Action Director will be coming up for election. Our current director Rep. Dan Itse is not running for re-election. Thank you, Dan for your years of service!
We are still accepting nominations until September 5, 2009. If you know a legislator who would make a great NHLA Political Action Director, please email your suggestion to chair@nhliberty.org.
The election will be open for 2 weeks beginning September 6, 2009 and ending September 20, 2009.
NOTE: You must be either a Full or Lifetime Member in order to vote in the NHLA elections. If you haven’t upgraded your membership yet so you can vote, go to http://www.nhliberty.org/donate.
For all of you who have been working on drafting new legislation for next year, the window for submitting new legislation is September 21 - September 25, 2009. Remember, only a sitting representative can sponsor new legislation. Representatives are usually happy to sponsor a bill for a constituent but it’s always best to find a person whose personal views closely align with the topic of your bill. This helps increase the odds of your bill moving forward. If you haven’t found a sponsor yet, better start looking now. Time is getting short. Anyone needing help identifying and contacting a sponsor, any member of the board will be glad to help.
There are many new bills being drafted right now that will need your help getting passed next year. Your energy, influence and intellect could make all the difference in moving these bills through the legislative process. Adopt-A-Bill is a great opportunity for NHLA members to get involved and take action in securing liberty in New Hampshire.
If interested, some of what you’ll do and what NHLA will help you with:
find a bill you can stand firmly behind;
work with the sponsors on strategy and research;
talk to and email people to raise public awareness;
write letters to the editors of local newspapers;
design and create flyers to distribute in key areas;
encourage people to call their representatives (most effective);
motivate people to write emails with a simple message;
call the committee members to educate them on the importance of passing the bill;
line up people to testify at the public hearings;
organize and coordinate public demonstrations and rallies.
All of the above points are merely suggestions. These tactics are effective and you may do some or all of what’s listed. Remember that the more you do, the better the chances are that the bill will pass. We are there to help you with strategy and manpower!
Some of the topics for proposed legislation are:
Montana-style gun rights bill
End “No Child Left Behind” in N.H.
“Son of HCR 6,” states’ rights bill
Parents’ rights amendment
Rejection of national health care legislation
Repeal “Blue Laws”
The time is drawing near for bill review season. New bills are expected to start coming out in November. We are encouraging all members to take part in the bill review process to help identify pro and anti-liberty bills that may need our attention.
Bill reviewing has been made easy with the bill review checklist provided on the website. Best of all, you can do it anytime in the comfort of your home. If you’ve never done this, but believe that you are a principled supporter of liberty and would like to have something to say about proposed legislation, this is your chance!
