Liberty Ratings Meeting

As the 2009 legislative session comes to a close, it’s time to find out how our legislators did in the pursuit of protecting and expanding liberty in New Hampshire. The board will be meeting at Murphy’s Taproom in Manchester on Saturday, June 6 at 1:00 pm to start discussing which bills to include for evaluating our representatives’ voting records and preparing the 2009 Liberty Ratings report card.

Gun Raffle Tickets On Sale NOW!

Don’t wait for the Liberty Dinner to get your raffle tickets. Buy them NOW before they sell out. This year’s prize is a Ruger LCP .380 pistol with 3 boxes of ammo (2 boxes self defense type, 1 box plain for practice), and a pocket holster. Tickets are only $20 each and you don’t need to be present at the dinner to win. Contact treasurer@nhliberty.org to make arrangements.

Read the bills? Now write one!

As the bill review season comes to an end, there’s no doubt that in the process you’ve encountered some section of our statutes that urgently cries out for change or deletion. Now is the time to start drafting legislation for next year. The NHLA will be evaluating proposed legislation on August 1 at 12:30 pm at Murphy’s Taproom in Manchester. Bring your suggestions! The more details you can provide, the better.

Anyone can suggest a bill, and most legislators are willing to sponsor a bill for a constituent or a friend. However, if you are interested in actually getting a bill passed, more work on your part will improve the odds. The more carefully your bill is drafted, the more thoroughly you have checked other related statutes for conflicts, the better the bill topic aligns with the sponsor’s interests, the greater the chance it will go forward. If you need help getting started, or in identifying and contacting a sponsor, any member of the board will be glad to help.

Candidate Training Session

It’s not too early to start planning for the 2010 election. If you are interested in running for State Representative or know of a good liberty candidate you can help, start learning now what it will entail and figure out the most effective way to win.

Anyone running as a conservative Republican (or someone who can pass for one) will want to attend the candidates training seminar hosted by the Reagan Network on October 17 and 18. Contact them at mattwenfran -@- verizon·net to get an application.

Anyone running as a Democrat or Independent will want to stay tuned to the NHLA calendar. As soon as we know of any seminars, we will post them.

NHLA Annual Meeting

We will be holding our Annual Meeting on August 16 at 3:00 pm in Epsom. All members are welcome. Meet the board, bring your ideas on how you can help protect and advance liberty in N.H., and give us feedback on important issues of the day. Email chair@nhliberty.org for location. When we’re done with the “meeting,” plan on staying for a potluck BBQ.
