We’re continuing our efforts to get HB383 killed in the Senate. This is the bill that would make seat belts mandatory in New Hampshire. Please call your senator, and urge him or her to oppose HB383! Visit http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/ns/whosmyleg/default.asp to find out who your senator is.
The key swing votes are Senators Jacalyn Cilley and Betsi DeVries. They both voted against the seat belt law last time. We thank them for that, and we need to ensure they stand their ground against serious pressure from the other side. Please help us distribute flyers in their districts on Saturday, April 18.
To help out in Senator Jacalyn Cilley’s district (Barrington, Madbury, Nottingham, Rochester and Somersworth), please contact Joe Flynn at joflynn -@- gmail·com or (804) 539-1860. If you prefer to distribute flyers in Senator Betsi DeVries’ district (Litchfield and Wards 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 in the city of Manchester), please contact Keith Carlsen at keithcarlsen -@- gmail·com or (603) 997-1446.
A big thank you to those who distributed flyers on past weekends!
The final public hearing for HB383 will be at 9 am on Monday, April 20, in Representatives Hall at the State Capitol. We need as many people as possible in the room, all wearing "Don't Restrain Choice" lapel stickers, and all signing in against the bill.
Online elections are now open for the positions of Secretary and Vice Chair. Please visit http://www.nhliberty.org/apr_2009_bod_election to cast your vote.
For Secretary, you may vote for Paul Comeau, Jr., or a write-in candidate. For Vice Chair, you may vote for Shuvom Ghose (incumbent), Mark Warden, or a write-in candidate.
Voting will close at 9 pm on Thursday, April 30.
There are currently 9 bills left to be reviewed. Also, of the bills already reviewed, many now have amendments which could alter their meaning significantly, so they need to be reviewed again. If you’d like to help review some bills, please contact Jeremy at research@nhliberty.org.
Slowly but surely, your donations are replenishing the PAC fund, making up for the money we spent last fall to help pro-liberty candidates get elected. We’re about half-way there, and we thank you for your generosity. If you’ve been putting off your donation, why not do it now? Please visit http://www.nhliberty.org/donate to donate by credit card, PayPal or check.
What can you do for liberty in New Hampshire (or wherever you live)?
New Hampshire has many liberty oriented organizations that often work together to move liberty forward and slow the growth of government. Depending on your particular interests and availability, there are numerous groups that could use your help. Check out the links page on our website for a list of organizations. Many are open to residents of other states. We also list national organizations. You can help move liberty forward.
The New Hampshire Liberty Alliance works cooperatively with many organizations. While it is unrealistic to expect that we would be in complete agreement with every liberty organization on all issues, we have a common interest in advancing individual liberty and holding back the creep of government intrusion. We find common ground on issues and work together.
The NHLA relies on members and volunteers. We count on volunteers to review hundreds of bills in each legislative session. This effort extends to the recommendations on the Gold Standard and ultimately forms the foundation of our annual Liberty Rating. NHLA volunteers distribute the Gold Standard to Representatives each week that has floor votes. Members attend hearings and executive sessions to give testimony or to simply sign in as supporters or opponents of the bills being discussed. NHLA members call and write letters and emails to legislators. The NHLA PAC contributes to pro-liberty political candidates and individuals help with campaigns. Some members distribute our brochures at liberty-themed events. Many people have created innovative outreach methods to help spread the message of liberty. These seemingly small efforts all add up. Getting involved is the key to successfully moving liberty forward. Please consider how you can contribute to these efforts. If you aren’t sure how you can help, check out our volunteer page and our discussion forum. If you already are involved, thank you. You make a huge difference for us all.
